| Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) |
|
Objective: Design the user interfaces for three major applications: Outage Scheduler, Market Manager and the Market Information System.
ERCOT operates the electric grid and manages the deregulated market for 75% of the state of Texas. In 2003, the Public Utility Commission ordered ERCOT to change the design of the wholesale electric market. This required building new systems and making major enhancements to existing systems.
Outage Scheduler is used to schedule transmission and generation outages. Market Manager enables ERCOT's market participants to enter bids, offers and trades in the nodal wholesale market. Both of these applications required a custom-designed user interface. The Market Information System is a portal which allows market participants to access reports, extracts, dashboards and other documents and offers users the ability to customize their home page.
My role on these projects was to gather usability requirements from end users and design the user experience. This included information architecture, interaction design and graphic design. In doing this design work, I created common elements across all ERCOT systems to present the user with consistent appearance and behavior.

Oklahoma Department of Human
Services
Performance Management Process (PMP) Course |
|
Objective: Convert the content from
an instructor's manual into a web-based course, incorporating graphics
and a variety of interactive features. The course must be designed
to keep track of a user's progress and score how they performed on
the exercises.
Although this course is offered to supervisors in a classroom setting,
Oklahoma DHS wanted to deliver the course through Internet to reduce
travel costs and to provide immediately access to the material.
On this project, I developed the instructional design and information
architecture for the course. I was the project manager, overseeing
the user interface design team and coordinating with the technical
team and client. I also created the illustrations, wrote copy and
constructed the HTML pages. The project was developed using Java Server
Pages and Java applets.
This project was contracted through The University of Oklahoma, who
conducted usability testing and reviews. The course was well received
and had minimal changes following the user testing.

| Auto Driveaway Co. Quick Quote System |
|
Objective: Create a web-based application
that enables Auto Driveaway's clients to get quotes and place orders
online.
Auto Driveaway transports vehicles across the
country and around the world from single vehicles for private
shippers to Fortune 500 company fleets.
Auto Driveaway wanted its corporate partners to have the ability to
login to a custom application through its website. From this application,
clients can obtain a quote, place an order and manage their worklist.
On this project, I began by documenting the business processes, then
designing the flow of the screens to mirror how users work. I then
produced the HTML files for the developers, who then created Java
Server Pages. The client wanted the graphic design to be centered
around Auto Driveaway's existing website.
